Weminuche Mountains, Colorado
This colorful summer sunset was taken in the Weminuche Wilderness, located Southeast of Silverton. After hiking through 3 hours of down pouring rain and hail, we arrived at this location. With only the valley visible and a veil of clouds over the mountains, I was skeptic about getting a sunset. But to my surprise the Colorado weather started to part and the clouds lifted and by the time of sunset there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I took this shot right as the sun went behind the outcropping of rocks to get a wonderful sun star. A truly great vista, with the Colorado Trail running left to right in the valley floor. The two prominent peaks in the center of the image would be Vestal Peak with the smooth Wham Ridge sloping down it and to the right would be Arrow Peak, which is all part of the Grenadier Mountain Range. A magnificent example of the Rocky Mountains. This image uses 7 vertical images stitched together to create this wonderful panorama.
