San Juan Mountains, Colorado
This photo was taken in late July during the peak of wildflower season. A group of friends and me had wanted to fly fish some alpine lakes in the San Juan's and decided on the particular early afternoon that we would head up CR 7 to the Blue Lakes Trail Head on the north side of 14,000 ft. Mt. Sneffels. As we hiked up the 3.2-mile trail, we could clearly tell the weather was taking a turn for the worse. The clouds came down lower and lower until we were engulfed. Once we reached the lake at just below 12,000 ft. my friends started to fish (left-hand side of the picture is my friend fly-fishing next to the lake) and I knew that this would be a great day to photograph the lake in this light rain, clouds and abundant wildflowers. This had been a wet summer, so the flora was a vibrant green and the lake a beautiful emerald blue. This photograph is about a 300 angle of view with Mt. Sneffels (just the peak) visible just left of center image and the San Sophia Ridge that overlooks Telluride in the middle right side of the image.
This image was shot using 9 vertical images, then stitched together to create the ultrawide panorama.
